But this flavor can’t obviously be contained in one place and family only. Slowly it gained a reputation and became popular throughout Mexico. The operation was still small but the demands are very high as the family tradition of creating this great tequila is preserved. Eventually a bigger distillery was opened in 1973, catering to the clamor of the public for more of this great flavor. The name Cazadores was also coined during that time. It was to honor Jose Maria as he continuously pursued in getting the right flavor for his tequilas.
The process of creating fine Cazadores is tedious. The company only uses the sweetest Agaves to create the perfect tequila. Only those agaves that aged eight to twelve years are used to create this tequila. Twice distilled, it follows the standard steps in creating tequilas but they have two distinct practice that makes their tequila stand out. While fermenting, Mozart’s music specifically the Symphony No. 40 is played to “serenade†the fermenting process. The other practice is that the company is using only new white oaks. These practices make sure that the Cazadores stand out among other brands or at least get a distinct taste.
There are three Tequila Cazadores variety: the Reposado, Blaco and Añejo. The Cazadores Reposado is the “rested†tequila. Instead of shipping out fresh, the tequila is rested for two more months in white oak barrels. Instead of using old bourbon oak, the white barrel gives their Reposado a distinct taste. This flavor is perfect for margaritas or even a straight shot for those who wanted a mildly strong taste of tequila. The Cazadores Blanco could be likened to the Silver Edition of other tequilas but its softness is different to other tequilas. Believe it or not, the Mozart’s music actually has some effects to the tequilas. Although it’s not scientifically proven yet, the makers of Cazadores actually believes it plays a vital role in creating this type of tequila. The Añejo is their aged tequila. It stays in their new white oak barrel for at least a year. The end result is a strong yet smooth tequila. Perfect for sipping: it has a slow start with a little bit of spice in the tongue but gives out a strong finish.
All of the tequilas in Cazadores use only 100% blue agave. These agaves are reputed to have the sweetest flavor when it comes to tequilas. You can never be wrong when it comes to these agaves. Legend has it that Jose Maria takes care of the agaves so much that he has to say goodnight to every agave before he sleeps. Even though that’s it just a legend, it just goes to show how Jose Maria takes care of the agaves, making sure they provide not only good but the best flavored tequilas the world has to experience.
