Evan Williams, the founder of Evan Williams Whisky distillery is regarded as ‘Kentucky’s First Distiller’. He founded his first small distillery on the banks of Ohio River in Louisville. Evan Williams’s distillery is now a subsidiary of Heaven Hill Distilleries, Inc. KY. Being rated as the best buy, Evan Williams Whisky is available in legendary square bottles in various sizes such as 1.75 liter, 1 liter, 750 ml, 375 ml, 200 ml, 100 ml and 50 ml.
It is produced from high quality corn grains available within a small radius of its distillery. The Continuity method of production is followed in the production of Evan Williams Whisky which enables it to maintain a consistent quality through out the year. Under this method new barrels of whisky are entered into bonded warehouses every month so that there is a great inventory available with whisky being aged from every month of the year. In this way a consistent quality standard is maintained when the final product is bottled.
Manufactured from a typical blend of corn, malted barley, rye and wheat- strict quality control is maintained when selecting grains for whiskey manufacturing.
The grains are turned into flour like powder with help of hammer mills in the milling system of the distillery and then introduced in the mash cookers in measured proportions. When added in the mash tub with hot water at a definite temperature they produce porridge like substance. Some sour mash is also added to it during the mashing process. Once the cooked mash is cooled to an ideal temperature, they are pumped into the fermentation vats. During fermentation, yeast is added to the cooked mash to convert the sugar into alcohol and carbon dioxide.
After fermentation, the alcohol is pumped into the 70 foot copper stills. The alcohol is distilled and redistilled through columnar stills to make it pure and increase its potency by removing all impurities. After gauging the liquid is put into charred white oak barrels for aging. The alcohol so aged for a minimum of two years achieves its color and distinctive vanilla caramel taste. Once aged perfectly the final product, Evan Williams’s whisky is bottled and shipped worldwide for sale.
With wide popularity among whisky connoisseurs, Evan Williams’s whisky has become America’s second largest selling brand of whisky. The Evan William’s Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky and the Evan William’s Single barrel Vintage are its flagship brands with the highest turnover.
