The name Francet was derived from the way people used to call the sales person of this Cognac. Owned by Staub Family, their son went around Europe to sell their Cognac.

His sales skills coupled with great sense of humor impressed many people. Since he is small in stature, he was called “Francet” or small Frenchman. The name was eventually adapted to the Cognac he sells. The smooth tasting flavor of Cognac is very popular in Europe although in the US, Francet was only introduced less than 50 years ago. Even though the company was founded more than a hundred years ago, its eventual transformation to a big company is really slow since it followed the traditional world of mouth advertisement.

Francet Cognac comes in three variations. Each of them can be differentiated by their color and age. Each of them also has a personality making them distinct other cognacs and their own brands.

The first type of Cognac is the Francet VS. This cognac comes in light golden color. The alcohol content is 40% which is a standard formula for all cognacs and in this brand. The cognac stayed for two years in the cask. Francet uses the traditional oak barrel and as it stays there, it adapts to the color of the cask. The VS of Francet is very tasteful and could be strong for some. Although it has already stayed in the Oak for two years, it’s still pretty powerful for some. The oak could already be smelled in first sip and the finish is very expressive. The fruits that were added in Francet could be clearly distinguished.

The Francet VSOP comes in a darker color. It still has that golden color but compared to the VS it’s definitely darker. Since it has stayed in cask for two years more than the VS, the color is more adapted to the Oak. In this stage of Francet’s Cognac, it’s already a great blend of everything – the fruits, the smell and even the taste of Oak is blended to perfection. The initial impression of the drink is smoother than the VS although it has a little bit of the tingling content. The finish is even better; the blend of cinnamon, carnation, apple and almonds could be clearly tasted. You can almost taste the goodness – it’s like drinking a fruit basket only a little bit stronger.

Francet XO is the oldest of the three flavors. It has the darkest color since it has stayed in the cask not two, four but more than six years. The color is almost the same as the cask. While it stayed there, the blend is almost priceless. Once tasted, the initial smell of vanilla will be there. Fruits are well blended and it has a sweet tasting finish. Only a Fancet XO can give you that flavor.

Francet is not regularly mixed with other drinks. It’s already a sweet smelling flavor and it’s a shame to cover it with other drinks. Traditionally served after dinner, Francet Cognacs will definitely go with your dinner food or your late night drink.
