Background

Jose Antonio Cuervo, the first Tequila producer obtained a land grant from the King of Spain in the year 1758 in the Mexican state, Jalisco. That time he used to produce mezcal inside a small factory. His successor, José María Guadalupe Cuervo, used this land for building a distillery to produce tequila in 1795. Later this distillery was named Fabrica La Rojena. In 1873, tequila was exported to the US for the very first time. The tequila was branded as Jose Cuervo in 1900. Currently, the company is owned by heirs of the Cuervo family that is, the Beckmann family.

All Jose Cuervo Tequila is produced in the Mexican town of Tequila which is in the state of Jalisco. As per the DOT only alcoholic beverages that are made with agave azul and grown in Jalisco can be branded as Tequila. This Tequila is made from a high desert plant known as the agave. Only Blue Agave can be used for producing Tequila.

This plant needs around 8 to 12 years to mature. The heart of this plant is called piña. Sugar is extracted from this and tequila is made. Tequila making requires lot of care and experience. Jose Cuervo has been making Tequila in exactly the same way for more than two hundred years. It takes care in every step, from choosing the best of agaves, to accurate fermentation and careful distillation to the final processing. And all these meticulous results in the world’s best Tequila.

The tequila produced by Cuervo has 38 to 40 percent alcohol by volume. Tequila I is characterized by its unique flavor. It is generally consumed straight like a shot. Often people mistake this concentrated taste experience as a stronger drink.

Tequila is “rested” in wooden barrels which are made of white oak, usually for minimum two months though not more than a year. This mellows down as well as refines the Tequila and results in a combination of wonderful smoothness and terrific taste.

Jose Cuervo Types

Recently Jose Cuervo Platino tequila was launched. It is high end tequila in the silver category. This launch was supported by a complete marketing campaign including promotions, public relations, special events and new advertising campaigns that was created by New York’s Arnell Group.

This Jose Cuervo Platino is created for people who love the finer things of life. Starting from the personally hand numbered bottles to making hand dipped wax seals to creating the unique taste and smooth finish of the tequila, great attention is given to little details to attain perfection.
