
The word Macallan is derived from a couple of Gaelic words, MAGH which means a fertile area or ground and ELLAN which means ‘of St. Fillan’, who was a monk born in Ireland and travelled far and wide in Scotland to spread Christianity in the eighth century.
The Macallan portfolio has been acknowledged as the best quality and greatest variety in the whole world by many whisky experts.
The Macallan Fine and Rare is a collection of vintage Macallan which is unrivalled throughout the world. Presently, the collection ranges from 1926 to 1976. The vision for the Fine and Rare was just to collect the best quality stuff from the oldest maturing stock present in the Macallan and make it possible to release the largest range of highest quality single malt ever released.
The diversity in flavor, aroma and color is extraordinary. From colors of the whisky ranging from beech to dark walnut and flavor from light peat through floral and fresh to that of rich sherry, this collection is definitely the Macallan’s story most comprehensively told.
The Macallan Fine Oak is another whisky that has left its mark. It is triple cask matured in a complex and a unique combination of incomparable oak casks; the European oak which is seasoned with sherry, the America oak also seasoned with sherry and the American Oak seasoned with premium bourbon.
European oak from the very old forests of North Spain are used to make staves and then the casks are hand made from them. They are filled with old Sherries and seasoned for around two years. American Oak from the vast woodlands of Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, Arkansas and Kentucky are used to make the casks and seasoned with best quality bourbon for eight years or aged sherries for two years. These then are used in the Macallan distillery, Scotland to be used to mature the Macallan Fine Oak.
The Macallan Sherry oak are matured in exclusively selected European oak cask which are seasoned with Sherries for two years. The slow maturing converts the spirit into this convincingly complex and rich Single Malt.
The Lalique decanters put up an impressive show of craftsmanship and artistry: style and spirit. These crystal bottles hold the most rarest and oldest of The Macallan’s whiskies.
