Mount Gay Rum

History

Mount Gay Rum is a product of Mount Gay distilleries Ltd of Barbados. It was first produced in the year 1703 making it one of the oldest Rum. Its continuous quality improvement efforts has led it to be rated as the favorite rum of the America’s ‘Rich and Famous’. It was also chosen as the winner of the Luxury brand status of the Luxury Institute in the year 2007.

Mount Gay Rum is produced from the high quality molasses rich in flavor, fragrance and essence. Molasses of the most consistent color and sugar content are mixed with the pure Barbadian coral water in big oak vats and are distilled by continuous and batch distillation process. The continuous distillation is a fragmented process using a still column distillation and the second batch distillation refers to Cooper Pot still distillation process in small batches.

Derived from its double distillation process, Mount Gay Rums has an extra ordinary distinguishing flavor very different from the other brands. After distillation the distillates are stored separately in slightly charred Kentucky Oak barrels for several years for maturing which gives it a smoky flavor and adds color to the spirit which can then be enjoyed truly as a beverage. After ageing these distillates from various ages are blended together very carefully to generate various products in the Mount Gay range.

Varieties

The flagship brand of the Mount Gay Range is the Mount Gay Eclipse which illustrates the art of the Barbadian and Caribbean Rum. The connoisseurs all over the world have liked it for its subtle, distinct floral and spicy notes. Apart from being enjoyed neat and on the rocks it is also very ideal for long drinks and cocktails. Another preferred brand in its range is the Extra Old which is a master blend of aged spirits. It has a reminiscence of pastry and bananas and a sweet and fruity note. Extra Old has received so many Gold Medals and trophies for its quality from International Institute for Quality Competition. Other selected brands from the Mount Gay Range are Premium White Rum, Sugar Cane Brandy, Mount Gay Vanilla and Mount Gay Mango.
