Van Gogh Gin is produced in small batches with close attention being given to every stage of production so that a very smooth and pure Gin is produced. The grain alcohol is distilled two times in modern column stills at 196 proof which thoroughly removes all the by products and unwanted substances from the spirit, thus creating a perfect alcoholic spirit base for making a classic gin.
Ten different types of herbs and botanicals are used in production of Van Gogh Gin.
They are Juniper berries from Italy, Almonds from Java, Lemon from Spain, Licorice from the Mediterranean, Grains of Paradise from South Africa, Cassia bark from tropical Africa, Angelica from Eastern Europe, Coriander from Africa, Cubeb berries from Sri Lanka and Orris from Southern Europe.
These botanical are individually distilled in earthen vats which produce essential oils. Then these essential oils are assimilated into the grain spirit in a copper pot still kept over fire. Then the best of the distillate is reduced to 80 proof and matured for six weeks in underground tanks to give a most smooth and pure drink, The Van Gogh Gin. It is also used for mixing in some cocktails and long drinks.
