Brewing

Heineken beer is made of water, hops, barley and yeast. In the year 1886, H Elion completed the development of the Heineken A-yeast. This yeast is the yeast that is still used for the beer.

The Heineken brewing process goes as follows. First the water for the beer is purified in complex water tanks. Next the barley is malted within the barley tank. After approximately one and one half days, the germination begins by soaking the barley. After about seven to eight days, the malted barley is set in a mill to dry, during this process seed roots are removed. The water and the malt are then mixed and boiled at a high temperature in a mash copper where the contents become wort. The wort is then filtered in the filtering copper. The hops for the beer are added to the wort within the wort copper and the contents / wort is re-boiled again. The hops in the solution is what gives the beer a bitter taste. In the wirlpool, all solid particles are removed. The yeast is added within the fermentation tank and the wort is cooled. The sugars are converted into alcohol by the yeast and the carbon dioxide by fermentation. After about seven days, the wort assumes a green beer that has about 4.5% alcohol. This beers remains in lagering tanks for 4-6 weeks maturing where it reaches 5% alcohol by volume. At this point, the bear is then force carbonated. A natural silicon kieselguhr removes the yeast from the filter tank. The beer is then pasteurized and bottled to kill any remaining microorganisms.

Heineken is a great beer, i'm not one to try to many or any fancy beers, in greece they are called greens when we order all we say is bring me a green and they know what we want, while Mythos is in a green bottle they know we mean Heineken. One things for sure though and sad but true that some of the bars here in town in the US sometimes have pretty old ones laying around or maybe they got warm then chilled again but the taste sometimes is just bad i know its not the beers fault because when you have a fresh heineken there is nothing like it.
