Cruzan Rum

History

The distillery of Cruzan Rum is located at Saint Croix in U.S. Virgin Islands. Founded in 1960, this distillery claims to be ‘the most honored distillery of the world’. St. Croix was once known as to be he richest sugar cane island in the world. The people of this island were known as Cruzans, and from here the name Cruzan Rum was derived.

Cruzan Rum is made from Sugar Cane and Molasses and it uses rain water for Rum Making which is very clean and bacteria free. The Molasses are mixed with rainwater and high quality yeast to convert the sugar in the molasses into Rum. It is then fermented and after fermentation it enters the five column distillation process to give it a most smooth and distinctive taste. The distilled rum is then kept into barrels and left behind for ageing. The more aged the rum, it is more favorite and tastier. Cruzan Rum is kept for ageing for a period of 2 to 12 years varying on its different flavors and brands. After ageing the Rum is ready for bottling and the production process is completed.

Varieties

The Flagship brand of the Cruzan Rum distillery is Cruzan Single Barrel Estate Rum. This rum is triple distilled and is aged for about four to twelve years in bourbon oak barrels to get its color and taste. This Cruzan Rum has won several awards including the most prestigious honor of being declared as the “World’s Best Rum” at World Spirits Competition held at San Francisco in the year 2000.

Other Cruzan Rum Portfolio brands are the Five Year Diamond Estate Rum, Light and Dark Rum, Tropical Rums, Rum Cream, Cruzan 151 and Clipper 120. Cruzan Rum also comes in an array of interesting flavors such as Vanilla, Honey, Orange, Mango, Pineapple and other oak flavors.
