Dewar’s Whisky

History

Dewar’s Whisky is a blended single malt scotch whisky which was first introduced in the year 1805 by John Dewar & Sons. John Dewar was a master blender pioneering in creating a fine blend from chosen whiskies. While John Dewar was fundamental in setting up the whisky manufacturing business, his two sons John A. Dewar and Tommy Dewar took the business to newer heights. The flagship brand of the company Dewar’s White Label was introduced in the year 1899.

Production

The production of single malt whisky at Dewar’s is a three step process after which it is blended with grain whisky to form a very special product.

Premium Scottish barley of very high quality is used for production of malt whiskey at Dewar’s. Fresh water rich in minerals is taken from the Pitilie Burn which runs beside the distillery. The barley is soaked in water for malting whish is heated after germination. This produces starch from the barley which is later converted into sugar and then into alcohol. This malted barley gives the whisky its warm and rich flavor. The mash is then mixed with hot water to produce sugar from the malt. Yeast is added and left for fermentation which converts the sugar into alcohol and then it is distilled and re-distilled in pot stills to give it a smooth taste and remove all impurities. After distillation it is matured in oak casks for at least three years which gives the sweetness and mellowness to the spirit.

Finally different whiskies are blended by master blenders to produce that unique blended whisky which gives Dewar’s Whisky its unique characteristic. Different whiskies are allowed to rest together so that their taste and flavor can mingle with each other to produce a new aroma and taste.

Varieties

The flagship brand of Dewar’s Whisky is the Dewar’s White label which is a blend of up to 40 single malts and grain whiskies and symbolizes a tradition of rich heritage of the Scottish highlands. Dewar’s 12 is a rich whisky with full flavor and lingering finish which is a winner in all taste tests and outperforms its competitors. Dewar’s signature is an ultra luxury whisky blended very finely with a distinction. Dewar’s Aberfeldy is a 12 yr aged single malt scotch whisky with a distinctive heather and honey softness.

Dewar’s whisky has been applauded by all and has been awarded many distinctions and medals around the globe in tasting competitions.
