Varieties

Popular ranges, which consist of the family of chivas Regal, are. Chivas Regal 12, which has a aroma that gives a sense of mixture of late summer meadows, honey, and orchard fruits. This rich and lingering drink has a rich taste of honey and ripe apples with vanilla hazelnut and butterscotch notes. It is 12yrs old.

Chivas Regal 18 which has multi-layered aromas of dried fruits, spice and buttery toffee and has a taste which is exceptionally rich and smooth. It has a velvety dark chocolate palate with elegant floral notes along with a tuft of sweet mellow smokies. It is 18 yrs old.

All the Chivas Regal blended whiskies are aged for at least twelve years!

Production

The production of Chivas Regal Whiskies involves six steps- Malting, Mashing, Fermentation, Distilling Maturation, And lastly, the most important Blending.

The Malting: The barely is soaked in water for two days after which the germination starts where the starches within the grains are converted into soluble sugars. Then the barley is spread onto the malt kiln floor. After 5-10 days this process is stopped by drying the kiln with hot air, which comes from an open fire underneath the floor. When the dried malt has been milled into grist, coarse flour, it is blended with warm water in order to extract the sugars present in it. It is a process of long six hours. It results into a sweet liquid, which is filtered, from the grain.

Next is fermentation where yeast is added to the sweet liquid extracted in the mashing process. Here with the help of the yeast the sugar is converted to alcohol over two days.

After fermentation the next step is to distill the wash, which produces a purer form of alcohol. Two types of stills are used here, the post still for single malts and the Coffey or continuous still for grain malts. The post still produces highest quality whiskey.

Distillation creates colourless liquid, which during the maturation step gets character and colour.

The last and the most important step is that of blending. After maturation different styles of whiskeys are mixed together. For Chivas Regal it requires three unique step processes:
a) Individual Malt whiskies are merged together
b) Individual Grain whiskies are mingled together
c) Then lastly the malts and the grains are joined for an absolutely balanced and rich taste.
